Cornet Technology to Provide Digital Video Compression Products for Georgia DOT Expansion
Video IP encoders and decoders to be used in Atlanta Intelligent Transportation System expansion project
SPRINGFIELD, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Video Convergence, the video products and integration services division of Cornet Technology, Inc. (CTI), announced that its iVDO Streamer 2/4 Encoders and Decoders will be used by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in the expansion of its Atlanta Metro Area Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). The first project of this expansion encompasses approximately a 10-mile stretch of I-285 on the southeast side of Atlanta. The installation begins in early fall and is scheduled for completion by February 2007.
GDOT currently runs an analog video system, but is upgrading to an Internet protocol (IP) based network. CTI’s iVDO Streamer 2/4 Encoders and Decoders were evaluated along with products from other qualifying vendors. The iVDO Streamer products were the only encoders/decoders that met all of the project specifications.
The iVDO Streamers’ IP technology will enable access to real-time images from any location. Officials monitoring live video streams will be able to communicate and share current information among pertinent agencies rapidly and efficiently, allowing swift reaction to emergency situations.
The move to an IP network for the ITS expansion will bring multiple benefits. According to Mark Demidovich, Assistant State Traffic Operations Engineer, GDOT, “The implementation of an IP-based network, using the iVDO Streamers, will assist GDOT in its traffic and incident management function by allowing us to view and quickly share information. This new architecture will provide improved video quality, reliability and flexibility for potential growth.”
Asha Kamath, Senior Account Executive, Video Convergence division, Cornet Technology, Inc. said, “We are pleased that our iVDO Streamers have been selected for the GDOT project in the Atlanta Metro Area. GDOT’s shift to a digital system will give the department access to real-time traffic video to help officials increase road safety and decrease congestion by improving response times to emergency situations.”
