Video Convergence to Install Intelligent Transportation System for Future IKEA Store: October 17, 2005

Project to integrate new segment of ITS on access roads into established system along I-580 Smart Corridor in Dublin, California

Springfield, Va. -- October 17, 2005 -- Video Convergence, the video surveillance products and integration services division of Cornet Technology, Inc. (CTI), announced that it will be installing an intelligent transportation system (ITS) for the county of Alameda on roads, currently under construction, that will provide access to a future IKEA store in Dublin, California. CTI will integrate this new system into the established ITS along the I-580 Smart Corridor. This new segment is designed to ensure smooth vehicle flow to and from the future IKEA store.

Funded by Alameda County and managed by IKEA, the installation of the new ITS segment will include video surveillance of the new roads and intersections that are being constructed around the store. The project will require CTI to install approximately one-half mile of new fiber cables to provide communications between the new intersections and the Traffic Operations Center. CTI will also install Video Optical Transceivers and Data Optical Transceivers to monitor four new traffic signals over a closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance system.

The new ITS segment will be integrated into the original I-580 system, which was designed and installed by CTI in 2004 to monitor and manage traffic flow, convey information to drivers about road conditions and traffic alerts, and provide an increased level of security along the highway. The system’s network communications system, an IP network over fiber, is designed to manage the video, voice and transaction data for the traffic management system.

“The I-580 Smart Corridor is a great example of how an ITS effectively reduces traffic congestion and decreases the number of accidents on major roadways by maintaining a smooth traffic flow and responding quickly to any incidents that occur.” said William Ippolito, Director of ITS Operations, Video Convergence division of Cornet Technology, Inc. “We are pleased to be continuing work on such a successful project and helping IKEA move into the Dublin area through the addition of a new segment to an established system.”
